Director, Re-Thinking Willmott Dixon
Julia Barrett is the Director of Re-Thinking, Willmott Dixon’s in-house sustainability team where she provides leadership and strategic support on sustainable development across Willmott Dixon and its sister companies: Fortem and Be. Julia also chairs the company’s Gender Diversity Steering Group.
An experienced environment and sustainability professional, Julia is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. She joined Willmott Dixon in 2012, from Cambridgeshire County Council, having previously been Regional Water Manager for the Environment Agency (Anglian), which followed ten years in various technical and commercial roles with ICI in Cheshire.
Head of Development (London), Landsec
Before joining Landsec, Beth was commercial director at HS2, with responsibility for commercial strategy, procurement, supplier management, land and property acquisitions and management, regeneration and economic analysis. Prior to this, Beth spent nine years at Transport for London and latterly became commercial director at Tube Lines.
Beth’s career began on Capitol Hill in Washington for the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the House of Representatives, before moving on to eight years in project finance banking.
CEO, Imtech UK & Ireland
Paul began the M&E contracting business in 1993 with two partners, becoming CEO of Imtech UK & Ireland in 2013. Following the failure of its Dutch parent in 2015, he led an MBO, and last year concluded the sale to EDF.
Paul says: “As an industry we are acutely aware of the under representation of women and need to find ways to encourage more into the many interesting and varied careers on offer. I hope our involvement with Inspire Me can contribute to that effort.”
CEO, TRAD Group
Des left school aged 14 without academic qualifications, and still has none. He has an Advanced Scaffolder’s Card from 1979 and a certificate for attending a supervisors’ course in 1991. Des is now CEO of the TRAD Group, a £100m turnover organisation, employing over one thousand people.
Now NASC president, Des acknowledges that while a lack of formal qualifications has not held him back, others have been less fortunate, particularly women in the industry. During his presidency he intends to redress this imbalance.
Group Services Director, VGC Group
Ciara joined VGC Group as HR manager and was promoted to the board as HR director in 2005. Since 2010 she has been group services director, leading finance, IT, marketing and HR functions. Major projects have included equality, diversity and inclusion programmes, and a new recruitment software platform.
Among Ciara’s goals is to drive VGC Group’s services to major projects such as HS2 and Hinkley Point through a diverse workforce with career development opportunities.
Head of Strategic Accounts, Randstad Construction, Property and Engineering
Sarah prides herself on putting people first and has been instrumental in our partnership with the Lighthouse Club construction charity and is chair of the Lighthouse Club North East. She has overseen numerous charity events, most recently raising awareness across the country about mental health in construction.
Sarah began in recruitment in 2003 and has progressed through the ranks before rising to the challenge within our strategic accounts.
Group Chief Executive Officer, Mabey Holdings
Juliette brings over 20 years of finance and industry experience to Mabey Holdings. Qualifying as a chartered accountant, she subsequently joined real estate company Savills, holding a board position as FD and COO.
Juliette has refocussed Mabey globally, strengthening its capacity to innovate and develop digital infrastructure and construction management technologies. She has driven improved performance, particularly in safety, organisational culture and customer service. Juliette represents Mabey on the CBI’s Construction Council.
