Inspire Me Construction News

Why launch Inspire Me?

Of the UK population, thereis roughly a 50:50 split of men and women working. But women currently only make up around 13 per cent of the construction workforce. Meanwhile, as CN reported last year, the gender pay gap in the construction sector stands at 23.3 per cent - compared with 18.1 per cent in the UK as a whole. At that time that just 13.2 per cent of the top 20 contractors 152 board members are women while only 5.4 per cent of the 111 executive board members were women.

CN’s role

Construction News has launched Inspire Me to encourage women to seek leadership roles in the construction industry. We aim to inspire future leaders and promote the industry as being gender neutral, welcoming of women in all roles. The principal aim of the campaign is to empower women with the knowledge and confidence to advance their careers to senior positions within the construction sector.

In 2018 our Workshops brought together 375 attendees, including representatives from UK’s largest contactors, regional contractors, consultants, subcontractors the wider supply chain to discuss the challenges and obstacles facing women.

For 2019 the Workshops will move the conversation forward and indispensable career and business advice. They are also an excellent opportunity to hear best practice, gain practical skills and network with your peers. There will be Workshops in Leeds and Glasgow, a Mentoring breakfast event in London and the Inspire Me conference to round up the years, in the Autumn. The Workshops and Mentoring breakfasts are free to attend, thanks to our supporters.
